SmartLipo™ is a cutting-edge, highly effective, safe method of surgically removing fat with laser assisted technology. During the SmartLipo™ surgery, the laser ruptures and breaks apart the fibrous fat cells underneath, resulting in the removal of a more liquefied, fatty substance. Here is How the SmartLipo Ultra Procedure Works
With SmartLipo ™ a few tiny incisions are made to inject local anesthetic and for insertion of the laser apparatus. The incisions require no stitches leave no scars. Throughout the procedure, the surgeon gently guides the laser device to successfully melt fat and thereby allow it to be easily removed. The laser also causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising (unlike traditional liposuction), decreasing recovery time substantially.

Almost anyone can be a good candidate for SmartLipo. It is recommended that patients are in good health when undergoing any surgery to reduce risks and potential complications. This procedure is not a means of removing weight in excess, it is a more a procedure to remove moderate amounts of fat and contour arms, love-handles, mid-section and waist areas of the body, buttocks and thighs. This procedure is recommended for people that have fatty deposits and patients with barrel-shaped waists, muffin tops, tummy rolls, spare tires and post-pregnancy flab, arm flab, thunder thighs and areas that do not respond to exercise or diet.

Who is a good candidate for the SmartLipo™ procedure?
If you have areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, then you're a candidate for SmartLipo™. Ideal candidates are in good health, of normal body weight and have realistic expectations for the results.

What body regions can be treated with SmartLipo™?
Smartlipo™ can be a great adjunct to Tumescent Liposuction procedures and it is ideal for treating small areas of the face, neck, arms, knees, back, bra strap, mons pubis, breasts (gynecomastia), and areas of loose and flabby skin (floppy skin). In addition, more than one area can be treated during the same visit and several areas can be augmented with SmartLipo™ at the same time.

How many treatments will I need?
For most patients, typically only one treatment is required per region or designated area. Once fat is removed from a region, the cells do not grow back, so it is permanent. Each session (per body region) lasts only an hour or two, depending on designated region and desired outcome.

Do I have to do anything post-treatment?
After the treatment there will only be minimal pain or bruising. We recommend 24 to 48 hours of rest, but most patients are able to return to work immediately, especially after a "Lunch Hour Lipo" session.

Are there any post-surgery side effects?
Because SmartLipo™ is a safe, targeted procedure that utilizes a fine laser instruments to perform the surgery and a local anesthetic, so the side effects are minimal. Any discomfort or mild soreness goes away within a day or two. There are no stitches and the tiny puncture wounds heal within two days. Patients may have mild discomfort and perhaps some light bruising, but they can walk, resume normal activities and return to work within 24 to 48 hours.
There may be some slight swelling in the area after the procedure, which will subside after the anesthetic solution is absorbed and eliminated through the body, but there is no pain associated with this healing process.
Does Smartlipo™ treat cellulite?
The procedure will improve the body's shape and also improve cellulite as well as tighten sagging skin.

Will the surgery leave scars or excess, sagging skin?
This procedure is designed to promote skin tightening as the fat is removed. The tiny incisions heal very quickly after the surgery and scarring is usually not an issue and because they are so small and they tend to fade and blend into the natural color of the skin.

Unless your skin is already very thin, wrinkled, or lax due to aging or dramatic weight loss, you will usually see an improvement in skin tone and firmness. Older patients and people who experience considerable weight loss actually pursue SmartLipo™ as a solution to sagging, flabby skin.

When can I expect to see results?
Results can be seen immediately with continued improvement over several months.

Safety and Complications
Again, Smartlipo™ is safer than traditional liposuction because there is less blood loss. In fact, in doing the procedure under tumescent technique, we have eliminated a lot of risks normally associated with general anesthesia.

Stephanie received her PA degree at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN in 1998. She is Board Certified and Surgery Certified by the NCCPA. She started working in Aesthetic Medicine in 2004 with a local Plastic Surgeon where she performed Botox and Dermal filler procedures. She then began specializing in the treatment of venous disease. For several years she has been performing sclerotherapy to treat small varicose veins and spider veins. She is an associate member of the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants and is a participant of the annual International Vein Congress. She attends continuing medical education seminars on aesthetic medicine.Stephanie also served in Iraq and Kuwait during operation Iraqi Freedom as a Medical Officer supervising medical clinics and treating American Coalition Force soldiers, injured/sick Iraqi citizens and their children.

Deborah Nichols, CME,CMA,CCC

Deborah began her career as a medical assistant at Kaiser Permanente in Ohio in 1982. From 1984 through 1989 she was Patient Representative at Kaiser. She began studying nursing from 1992 until 1994 and then switched gears to become an EMT and Paramedic. She received her medical esthetician license after completing a 750 hour program at Interstate Cosmetology School in Mayfield, Ohio. She received her laser certification from Rocky Mountain College of Laser training in Denver, Colorado. She also is certified in cosmetic tattooing having trained at USC University Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. Debbie is also a certified medical and clinical electrologist.

Deborah was managing esthetician and laser technician for Dr. Janet Blanchard, a highly successful plastic surgeon in Mentor, Ohio from July 2000 through March of 2007. She provided consultations for all cosmetic procedures and advised on combining plastic surgical procedures with Botox and dermal fillers to achieve optimal cosmetic results. Deborah also is versed in the use of a variety of lasers for skin tightening, skin resurfacing, photo facials, and laser hair removal. She has experience with Thermage, Fraxel, Sciton Micro Laser Peels, Alma Accent, Smooth Shapes to name a few. While working at Dr. Blanchard’s Deborah was involved in all aspects of patient care from the initial consultation through arranging all follow up care.
