Arm lift (Brachiplasty)
PROBLEM: Aging as well as an area of concern for those patients having significant weight loss is excess tissue in the upper arm area. No matter how much exercising or toning you do, that skin will stay there unless surgically removed.The
PROCEDURE: While some patients who have mostly fat tissue and only a small amount of excess skin on the back and inside of the upper arm can be treated with liposuction, the only way to correct a significant amount of excess skin is to make an incision and remove the extra skin. An incision is made from the underarm area extending along the inside or back of the upper arm to the elbow. To obtain the best contour it is sometimes necessary to extend the incision across the underarm area and slightly on to the side of the chest.
Thigh Lift – Lower Body Lift
PROBLEM: After significant weight loss, often there is excess tissue in the medial upper thigh, just below the pubic area. No matter how much exercising or toning you do, that skin will stay there unless it is surgically removed.
GOAL: Improve contour in thighs. Our technique also aims to minimize the appearance of the scar through incision location and appropriate fat removal.
PROCEDURE: With the lower body lift the excess skin and fat from the outer thighs and buttock is removed. If you have lost a significant amount of weight or have poor skin tone related to normal aging you may benefit from this procedure. This procedure removes the excess skin and fat from the outer thighs and buttock and thereby tightens the underlying support layers of the skin. As the result of a lower body lift, the buttock and outer thighs will look tighter and more attractive. Liposuction can be performed in conjunction with a lower body lift to further enhance the overall result.

Liposuction, Laser liposuction, Smart Lipo, Laser Lypolysis
PROBLEM: Patient has areas of loose skin or fat deposits that are diet and exercise-resistant.
GOAL: Liposuction improves body shape in areas such as chin, neck, upper arms, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles by removing exercise-resistant fat deposits.
PROCEDURE: Liposuction uses a tube and vacuum device. This procedure can be performed using the super wet technique, in which targeted fat cells are infused with an epinephrine solution before liposuction to reduce post-operative bruising and swelling. For larger volumes of fat or for fibrous body areas, ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL) may be used. UAL is a technique in which an ultrasound probe is inserted beneath the skin to “liquefy” the fat before it is suctioned. Dr. Salvador also employs Laser-assisted Fat Removal (SmartLipo), which can be performed in the office on appropriate patients.

Breast Augmentation mammaplasty with Implants
PROBLEM: Dissatisfaction with the appearance and proportions of the body, breast augmentation is performed to enhance the shape and size of a woman’s breast using a breast implant.
GOAL: Transform breasts’ size, volume and shape, resulting in a flattering new appearance. Breast augmentation can enhance the figure, balance body proportions and boost confidence. Breast implants can increase the fullness and projection of the breasts as well as improve shape and symmetry of the breasts while still looking natural. The breast augmentation procedure can have a very strong impact on patient self-esteem.
PROCEDURE: Breast augmentation involves placing an implant either beneath the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle (pectoralis muscle) and breast tissue. Submuscular placement of implants results in a more natural look and feel as the implant is mostly covered by muscle and breast tissue. Incisions may be in the areola (the dark skin around the nipple), in the fold beneath the breast (the inframammary approach), or the axilla (armpit). Implants may be medical grade, biocompatible silicone shells filled with saline, or the newly FDA approved silicone gel implants.
They are available either smooth or textured, and also come in round or teardrop (anatomic) shapes. Selecting the best implant size is a very individualized process dependent on your body shape and desired results. Dr. Salvador will be able to advise you as to which type of implant will be best for your specific body and goals. Dr. Salvador often uses 3-D imaging in the consultation to give you an idea of what you can achieve with breast enhancement.
Augmentation mammoplasty can be used to enlarge a naturally small breast, improve the shape and position to make breasts appear rounder and fuller, as well as enhance the contour of the breast. An augmentation with implants may improve slightly sagging breasts, but a breast lift (Mastoplexy) may also be necessary.
Breast Lift
PROBLEM: Inevitable life events cause the breasts to lose their shape and firmness. Multiple pregnancies, loss of skin elasticity due to aging, loss of breast volume, and gravity are several factors that result in sagging, drooping (ptotic) or deflated breasts.
GOAL: Mastoplexy, or breast lift, is a procedure performed to elevate and reshape sagging breasts and reposition the nipple to a more desirable size. This results in a more youthful shape and position of the breasts. This procedure can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple There are several different ways to accomplish this, including using traditional lollipop or anchor-shaped incisions.
A newer technique uses incisions only around the areola; also known as a Benelli, peri-areola, or doughnut lift, this technique removes a donut shaped piece of tissue around the areola and can result in less visible scarring following surgery.
BEST CANDIDATES: Women who are non-smokers, physically healthy, and realistic in their expectations are the best candidates for this procedure. A breast lift may also be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation. Using breast implants, breast augmentation can give additional lift to the breast by increasing its volume.
Surgical Overview
Length: Usually 1 to 3 hours.
Anesthesia: General (asleep).
Hospital Stay Usually outpatient.
SIDE EFFECTS: Temporary bruising, swelling, discomfort, numbness, dry breast skin, permanent scars, reduced ability to provide breast milk.
RISKS: Thick, wide scars, fluid collection skin loss, infection, unevenly positioned nipples, permanent loss of feeling in nipples or breast.
RECOVERY: May have draining for one to two days. Usually back to work in one week or more. Strenuous activities can be resumed usually after one month. Fading of scars takes several months to a year.
Duration of Results: Variable. Gravity, pregnancy, aging, and weight changes may cause new sagging. Results may last longer or be enhanced when breast implants are inserted as part of the procedure.
Breast Reduction
PROBLEM: Oversized breasts, or breast hypertrophy, can be a distressing source of neck, back and shoulder pain, skin irritation and a variety of other medical problems. They can prevent a woman from having the healthy, functional lifestyle she wants to live. Women with excessively heavy breasts are also limited in the types of clothing they can wear and physical activities they can perform.
GOAL: Breast reduction surgery is sought by many women to relieve the mental distress, physical restrictions, and painful strain on other parts of the body caused by excessively heavy breasts. Breast reduction reduces the size and volume of the breast while simultaneously improving the shape and position.
PROCEDURE: Technically called reduction mammaplasty, breast reduction involves removal of excess breast tissue, glandular tissue, or fat to reshape and lift the breasts. The result is smaller, lighter, more natural-shaped breasts that are in better proportion with the rest of your body. The incision patterns for this type of surgery are generally determined by the size and shape of the breast as well as the blood and nerve supply to the breast tissue and areola. The surgery should provide relief from symptoms such as pain, rashes, and poor posture as a result of excessively large breasts.
Insurance Coverage: Because of the functional problems associated with extremely large breasts, insurance will often cover the cost of this surgery.

RECOVERY: May have draining for one to two days. Back to non-strenuous work activity usually within two weeks; active exercise usually after four weeks.
Breast Reconstruction
PROBLEM: The most common reason patients undergo breast reconstruction is following surgical removal of the breast for cancer (mastectomy). Other reasons may include congenital or traumatic deformities, or any medical condition that may result in a breast deformity.
GOAL: This can be an incredibly traumatic experience for women. Our goal is to reduce this trauma by reconstructing the breast.
PROCEDURE: There are numerous techniques in breast reconstruction that can be categorized as either implant reconstruction (tissue expander) or flap reconstruction using autologous tissue (your own tissue) to make the breast, also known as natural breast reconstruction. Sometimes these modalities are combined. We will explain to you all the treatment options. Based on your health, body habits and goals, you and will determine the plan for reconstruction.
Both forms of breast reconstruction – implant or flap reconstruction – usually require several stages for completion. Every patient requires a customized plan for an optimal result. After creating the breast size and shape, as well as symmetry between the two breasts, the last two steps are creation of the nipple and areola.
There are many options in breast reconstruction. Many plastic surgeons do not perform some of the more complex reconstructive procedures. It is ours opinion that patients should be informed of all their options before proceeding with breast reconstruction.

What Is Fat Transfer?
Fat transfer is a simple and safe method primarily used for contouring the face and replacing lost skin tissue due to aging or scarring. Dr. Salvador has extensive experience and training in fat transfer surgery. Fat transfer results are immediately apparent. During fat transfer surgery fat cells are transferred from one area of the body to another. As an alternative to collagen, Restylane and Perlane treatments, fat transfer is an alternative procedure used to fill in facial creases, wrinkles or other depressions in the skin caused by surgery, aging, acne or trauma. Fat transfer can also be used to refine, enhance and contour the lips, cheeks, jaw, brows and under the eyes. Since fat transfer uses your body’s own tissues, generally, the body does not reject the cells. The result of fat transfer surgery is a soft and natural look.
Your Fat Transfer Consultation
Dr. Salvador will meet with you and discuss the details of the fat transfer procedure. Upon examination, he will see if you are a good fat transfer candidate. Dr. Salvador may suggest spreading out your fat transfer procedures over several treatments.
Your Fat Transfer Surgery
Fat transfer surgery is done at a state-of-the-art, fully accredited ambulatory surgery centers. In most patients, the fat is obtained from the buttocks, thighs, or abdomen in a process similar to liposuction but with more attention to keeping the fat cells healthy. Local anesthesia is often all that is used as only a small incision or puncture is required. Once the fat is harvested, excess oils and fluids are removed. The fat is then re-injected into the desired area through a tiny tube. Fat transfer surgery lasts 1-3 hours.
Fat Transfer Recovery
Fat transfer punctures are barely noticeable. You may experience some swelling and bruising in the incision/puncture areas. Most patients can return to work within seven days after the fat transfer procedures and can resume most normal activities in about two weeks. Since some fat is reabsorbed into the body, touch up fat transfers at a later date may be necessary. Fat transfer results vary from person to person but the corrections generally last several years or more. Fat transfers rejuvenate one’s appearance by erasing wrinkles, restoring youthful facial contours, plumping lips, and smoothing scars, sagginess, and other skin imperfections.
