What is Botox, officially known as BOTOX Cosmetic?

Botox is a muscle relaxing agent derived from Botulinum that reduces wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily paralyzing the muscle. The most common area of treatment is frown lines of the forehead. It may also be used to treat excessive underarm sweating.

How does the treatment work?
Botox temporarily reduces the contractions of the muscles that cause wrinkles. By relaxing the muscles, the overlying skin becomes smoother. Several tiny Botox injections are administered directly into the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. Your health care provider will determine where those muscles are located. You can trust the Radiance Liposculpture Medspa Center professionals for effective, state-of-the-art Botox in West Palm Beach.

Not All Botox is Created Equal.

Unfortunately, Botox at one practice may not be exactly what you get at another..... Not all Botox is Created Equal! Botox has no downtime as opposed to other wrinkle reducing methods. Also, following treatment there is little to no pain or discomfort. Results can be seen after only one session. Here is some information that we New Radiance MedSpa believe you can use to help guide yourself through the Botox confusion that exist today in the market.

Clostridium Botulinum toxin type A is supplied in a manufacturers vial containing 100 units of vacuum-dried neurotoxin powder complex. A practitioner can not inject a powdered substance through a syringe so in order to be able to inject these active units of Botox, saline must be added to get BOTOX in "liquid form." This process enables the Botox to be extracted from the vial into the syringe and then injected.

There are 100 units of Botox in every vial. As you can see in Table A (see below), the more saline (in mL) that is added to the Botox vile, the less active units that will be present in each 1/10 mL extracted into the syringe. Some may refer to this is as the dilution process, but it is actually called "reconstitution". So now while each practice received the same product from the manufacturer, when they reconstitute it to make it possible to inject, they can add saline at the recommended standard or they can add more saline than recommended. Unfortunately, over diluted BOTOX is an epidemic in South Florida.

With this in mind, you should be cautious and only deal with a facility that you trust. Everyone pays the same price to get the product from the vendor (Allergan). So how can prices vary so much? That's where the "reconstitution" question becomes very important. Below, Diagram A illustrates the recommended starting doses of the frequently injected areas.

You may think you are getting a "good dose" of Botox because the practitioner is injecting a large amount, but don't confuse the units of saline with the units of actual Botox. In other words you may get a large syringe and only have received half or less of the amount of Botox units you need. Most Cosmetic Centers that inject properly charge from $13.00 to $17.00 per unit of Botox or $250-300 per area treated.

We constantly hear from new patients that Botox treatments from other centers did not seem to work well and they believe the product does not work. Then after receiving Botox at New Radiance they are amazed at the difference proper dilution and technique make.

Diluent (saline) added to Botox vial
(0.9% sodium chloride injection)
Resulting dose/
Units per 0.1 (1/10) mL
  1.0 mL   10.0 U
  2.0 mL   5.0 U
  2.5 mL   4.0 U*
  4.0 mL   2.5 U
  8.0 mL   1.25 U
Recommendations for Reconstitution and Handling*

So if a center dilutes their Botox with 8.0mL of saline you would only receive 1.25 units of Botox per 0.1 mL injected vs. the proper dose of 4.0 units per 0.1 mL injected. In other words you're receiving mostly saline. Now you know why some centers price their Botox so low and why all Botox injections are not created equal.

Dysport is the latest cosmetic Injectable approved by the FDA to treat facial wrinkles

Dynamic wrinkles include those lines across the forehead (horizontal rhytids), around the eyes (crow's feet), and between the eyebrows (glabella).

Dysport works by treating specific, wrinkle-causing facial muscles in order to eliminate the dynamic wrinkles. In the proper hands Dysport can provide a very natural appearing and dramatic improvement in your appearance. Dysport treatments are performed in the comfort of our office. There is no down time with this procedure, and you can return to your regular daily activities almost immediately.

What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Exactly how the two wrinkle-relaxers differ is not fully understood. Initial reports suggest that Dysport may act quicker. Botox takes three to five days to work, while Dysport seems to work within one to two days. In some cases, wrinkles begin to fade as soon as 24 hours after receiving Dysport treatment. This rapid response could be the deciding factor for a woman or man looking to improve their appearance before a big social event or meeting. What’s more, the Botox alternative may last longer than its predecessor. Some studies have shown that Dysport injections may keep wrinkles at bay for six months to one year, as opposed to the approximate three month timeframe associated with Botox. There may be some downsides to Dysport. Botox manufacturer Allergan points out that Dysport may be more likely to cause antibody formation. The body develops antibodies when it recognizes a foreign invader and attacks it. If you develop antibodies to Dysport, your body neutralizes the toxin, potentially preventing it from working.

What are the side effects?
Potential side effects of Dysport are similar to those associated with Botox treatment. They include local numbness, swelling, bruising or a burning sensation during injection. These side effects can be mitigated by placing ice on the injection site before and after the procedure.

What are the costs of Dysport?
Another key factor is the cost of Dysport compared to Botox. Dysport is approximately 1/3 the cost of Botox; however, it is also 1/3 the strength. This means you will need about three times as many units of Dysport to get the same results as you would with one unit of Botox. As a result, the cost of Dysport treatment will likely end up being similar to Botox.

RADIESSE dermal filler is ... Naturally superior

Radiesse dermal filler is made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel, and is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure. RADIESSE dermal filler is the ideal choice for total facial contouring. It can restore a healthy, youthful appearance, enhance your existing features, help you defy age and gravity, and increase your confidence – all without invasive surgery or scarring.

RADIESSE dermal filler works with your own body in a remarkable way. Upon injection, it immediately adds volume to safely contour, correct, and beautify facial features. And unlike other fillers, RADIESSE dermal filler continues to work over time. With its patented microsphere technology, it starts a process called collagenesis, stimulating your body to produce new collagen and encouraging collagen to grow around the injection area. RADIESSE dermal filler actually helps your body create its own naturally younger look, setting a new standard in facial contouring and augmentation.

Immediate and long-lasting
Treatment with RADIESSE dermal filler is so simple and convenient, it can be performed during a lunch hour. You'll see the results right away - and these results may last up to a year or more for many patients. The long-lasting effects of RADIESSE dermal filler can reduce the need for retreatment, which saves you time and money compared with other fillers.

How long do the effects of Radiesse last?
Another unique feature of Radiesse is the length of time the effects of the injections remain. In most cases, the youthful look of facial restoration from this treatment last 1-2 years. Although some individuals prefer a less permanent correction of facial imperfections, others find this quality to be highly desirable.

Is there any anesthesia needed?
Topical numbing cream (BLT) may be used to maximize your comfort during the procedure. However, most patients do not require this as Dr. Salvador mixes the Radiesse with lidocaine, a local anesthetic. Most patients report little pain when Radiesse is administered by Dr. Salvador.

Is there any pain associated with Radiesse treatments?
You may experience a mild amount of stinging or aching sensation during injection, but this limited in nature.

Will there be any redness of the skin?
Temporary, minimal amount of pinkness/ redness to your skin.

Are there any possible side effects to Radiesse?
Bruising at the site of injection is a commonly reported side effect. To minimize bruising, inform us if you use blood thinners such as ibuprofen, aspirin or herbal preparations prior to your procedure. Temporary minimal to moderate swelling can be expected, which should dissipate following injection. Some patients report dramatic reduction in swelling hours after their treatment. It is normal to experience some tenderness at the treatment site for a few days.

Restylane Lipp is specially designed for lip enhancement.

Restylane Lipp is recommended for creating volume in the lips, but can also be used for correction of the vermillion border and smile lines. The product should be injected into the deep layer of the dermis and/or the surface layer of the subcutis.

What is the difference between Restylane and Botox?
The two products have completely different actions. Botox relaxes tiny facial muscles, causing lines in certain areas to diminish or disappear. Restylane actually fills lines, restoring the natural contour of the face. It is not unusual for individuals to utilize both treatments to restore a youthful look to the face in a rather dramatic way.

Can I have an allergic reaction to Restylane?
Restylane is non animal based and therefore requires no skin testing. This eliminates any possibility of allergic reaction.

What are the side effects?
The only side effects that can occur are temporary redness and slight swelling at the site of injection. This disappears in a short period of time.

Will I feel any pain?
Restylane is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts with an ultra fine needle. A topical anesthetic may be used when injecting facial lines and folds. When used to enhance the lips, a local anesthetic, similar to that used by a dentist, is administered so that the procedure is pain free

How long do the effects of Restylane last?
The additional difference is that the effects are more long lasting, usually 6-9 months
